Broccoli leaves are edible... so into my green smoothie they go!

I just harvested a beautiful head of broccoli from my garden... and got to thinking... I wonder if I can use those broccoli leaves in my Green Smoothie this morning.

Now, I've NEVER used broccoli greens before...  so I wondered if you could even eat them.  So I googled it... and found this very helpful list of what's edible from the University of Florida, agriculture department.

And..  YES, the broccoli leaves are indeed edible!  So into my green smoothie they go!

it's spinach day...

Today's green was Spinach!

I buy the big bags of baby spinach at Costco and just put them right into the freezer.  Each individual leaf freezes perfectly giving me fresh spinach whenever I want some!

So far spinach is my favorite smoothie green!  I find that spinach creates a nice smooth, creamy texture in my green smoothie... and has a mild flavor... not that you could hardly tell with all the puckery flavor of the added fruit!

Today's fruit included 1/2 juice of a lemon, a whole orange, a whole apple, a couple frozen pears, some mixed frozen fruit.

And approximately 1 1/2 to 2 cups of frozen baby spinach!

Blended in my Vita Mix with about 2 cups of water... and TOTALLY enjoyed!!!

Sunday morning fruity green smoothie

A Smoothie from the other day...
Good morning blogging friends!

I'm sipping on my delicious fruity green smoothie as I write up this blog entry!!!

I gathered up my prewashed fruit, then reached into my biofresh for some greens!

I always wash up my greens just before putting them into my Vita Mix.  I use just a few drops of this organic cleaner.  This stuff is highly concentrated so a few drops will do it!

Watch my wash up video... here...

Into my Vita Mix this morning I put:
fruit...
1 green apple, cut into chunks
1 pear, cut into chunks
maybe 1/4 cup of frozen pomegranate seeds
1/2 small banana
greens...
3 sprigs of Kale
1 sprig collard green
some red leaf lettuce
other stuff...
scoop of ground flax seed
1 serving of ESP
1 serving of this stuff
a little ice
and about 1 1/2 of water

Yummy!  It tastes fruity, it's green, it tastes delicious....  I love that as I sip on this I'm providing my body with fruit, vegetables, and protein.  What a great start to my day!

12 pounds down...

Good morning!

I started out a little skeptical about drinking green smoothies... but I have to say that NOW I'm really enjoying them!  I love the taste!  I love knowing that I'm getting more good nutrition into me!!!

I've even lost 12 pounds over the past month!!!  Yeah!!!

This morning's green smoothie:

  • juice of 1/2 lemon
  • whole apple cut up into chunks
  • half banana

  • a frozen pear
  • some frozen spinach
  • 1 sprig of kale
  • 2 sprigs of collard greens
  • couple tablespoons of ground flaxseed
  • 1 serving of Cinch, vanilla flavor
All blended up until smooth in my Vita Mix.
